Stretch Marks

Skin is incredibly elastic and durable but at times, its smoothness and suppleness is challenged by stretch marks. While these marks do not pose any health consequence, they can compromise our self confidence and negatively affect how we feel about our skin and body.

Visible Effects

Stretch marks begin as reddish or purplish stretched lines from growth spurts or weight gain such as during pregnancy. Although permanenet, these lines become whitish and less conspicuous over time. Stretch marks can vary in length and width, extending to several centimetres in length and up to 10mm wide.

Underlying Causes

What causes stretch marks? They commonly appear with growth spurts, puberty and pregnancy on the hips, along the abdomen and breasts. Stretch marks appear when tissues underneath the skin are torn due to rapid growth or overstretching.

The use of specialized lasers for stretch marks, such as the Fraxel® re:store DUAL, can remodel the collagen from beneath the stretch mark, creating firmness in the surrounding tissue and thereby making the stretch mark less obvious where the use of our BBL light therapy may reduce their reddish appearance.
