Photodynamic Therapy

We are excited to be able to provide a treatment for sun damage and superficial basal cell carcinomas (BCCs), called Photodynamic Therapy (PDT).
It is a non-invasive method of using a prescription cream called Metvix combined with a red-light source, which can treat larger areas of sun damage, especially on the scalp and face.

Common side effects include redness, mild swelling, itching and crusting, which usually resolve between 5-7 days.

The benefits of PDT include:

  • Long-term therapeutic efficacy
  • It is a simple in-office procedure
  • Often only one treatment is required
  • It is more effective than other treatments
  • No scar as a result

Many insurance companies cover the cost of the prescription medication and it is a minimal fee for the actual procedure.
