Dermatochalasis – Eyelids
Also known as droopy or redundant eyelid skin can be treated by removing excess skin and tissue from the upper or lower lid. The result: restoration of the functional and aesthetic characteristics of the eyelid.
Using the latest techniques and applications in eye rejuvenation.
-
Upper dermatochalasis: First, a delicate incision is made along the upper lid in the crease. Excess tissue is removed and/or repositioned. Sometimes a strip of muscle is removed in the area of the crease to create the proper contour. Fine, dissolvable sutures are used to close the skin incision and minimize scar visibility.
Lower dermatochalasis: First, a delicate incision is made along the inside of the eyelid to access the fat inside the eyelid that makes the lid look puffy or like it is sagging. Excess fat tissue is removed and/or repositioned to recontour the lower eyelid and margin of the orbit to rejuvenate the appearance. It is often done in conjunction with laser resurfacing of the eyelids. There are no sutures with this technique .
-
Performed under local anesthetic with low level sedation and /or inhaled analgesia (or general anesthetic depending on your desire) and can last between one to two hours. Our highly trained professionals take every safeguard to ensure our patients are fully informed and prepared for both pre and post-treatment care.
-
Bruising, redness, and swelling is to be expected. Effective pain management will be discussed and prescribed prior to treatment.
Brow & Forehead Lift
A brow/forehead lift is a surgical procedure where the tissues of the forehead are adjusted and excess skin is removed to create the desired ‘lifted’ effect. There is also the option of endoscopic or a minimally invasive brow lift. Incisions are hidden behind the hairline. This procedure can address a furrowed brow, brow asymmetry, frown lines, and drooping brows.
-
Depending on the brow lift or forehead lift technique, incisions may be made in various positions on the forehead or scalp. Attention is always paid to optimal hiding of the incision lines. They are generally hidden in or behind the hairline to minimize the appearance of scars. Muscles which cause undesired frown lines can be interrupted to minimize these. Excess skin on the forehead can be reduced to smooth the skin and the brows can be lifted for an improved and rejuvenated appearance.
-
The procedure may be done with local anaesthetic with oral and inhaled analgesia, or if preferred, a general anesthetic. The surgery usually takes one and a half to two hours to complete.
-
The expected recovery period following a brow lift or forehead lift is 1-2 weeks. Supportive garments/dressings are not needed. Prescribed analgesic medications may be appreciated through the first few days post-surgery. Bruising and swelling around the eyes and on the forehead are common and typically subside within one to two weeks.
Brow Suspension
A brow suspension is a less invasive alternative to brow lift surgery to lift and contour the brows. This procedure is best suited to moderate aging concerns.
-
Small incisions are made within the eyebrow and hairline directly above the eyebrow incisions. A special instrument is carefully placed underneath the skin between the eyebrow and hairline incisions and a suture is threaded. The eyebrows are then lifted and secured into their new, desired place.
-
A local anesthetic is administered during the brow suspension procedure to eliminate any discomfort throughout the surgery. Low level sedation is an option to help reduce your anxiety. Brow suspension surgery is one hour.
-
Swelling and bruising following a brow suspension, particularly around the eyelids is possible but is usually minimal. If you experience pronounced swelling, it may temporarily impede vision. Cold compresses, prescribed analgesics and keeping the head elevated will maximize your comfort and optimize recovery. Average recovery time is 7-10 days.
Browpexy (Brow Asymmetry)
Browpexy involves a brow lift procedure paired with blepharoplasty to both lift the brows and correct brow asymmetry. By combining these surgeries, concerns of heavy, falling eyelids and the position of the brows are simultaneously addressed, thereby avoiding multiple surgical procedures. Browpexy reduces redundant eyelids and opens up the eye by lifting the center and outer aspects of the brow. The result: a more refreshed and youthful appearance.
-
To free the eyebrow from some of its attachments, a dissection is made over the bony portion of the eye socket. With hidden stitches, the underside of the eyebrow is stitched to the fibrous tissue covering the bone. The eyebrow is then lifted and secured with delicate sutures to the desired location. Healing from the procedure is generally quick and scarring is very inconspicuous.
-
We use local anesthetic and low level sedation, with the option of general anesthetic dependent on patient desire. The complete procedure requires just one to two hours.
-
Light activities can be resumed after 48 hours while recovery from visible bruising and swelling can take up to two weeks. Eyes may feel sticky, dry, and itchy. Using cold compresses, prescribed pain medication, and keeping the head elevated are key to minimizing discomfort and aiding healing. Sometimes eye drops may be prescribed. The self-absorbing stitches will dissolve on their own.
Facelift
Modern facelifts (also known as rhytidectomy) integrate a variety of techniques resulting in natural looking results.
-
Facelift surgery is a complex approach to facial rejuvenation. The treatment involves the repositioning of multiple facial layers including fat, skin, and, sometimes, muscle tissues.
-
The treatment is performed under local anaesthetic with sedation and inhaled analgesia. (General anesthetic can be used if preferred.) The surgery can last between two to six hours. Incisions are made at the temple and around the ears to access the areas to be “lifted” and sometimes in other hidden locations depending on the lift technique or areas to be addressed.
-
It is recommended that each patient have someone available for assistance during the first 24 to 48 hours post-treatment. Swelling, bruising, and redness are to be expected. Ice packs can be applied to ease discomfort. Effective pain management will be discussed and prescribed prior to treatment but the pain levels are different for everyone. A small amount of post-treatment home care is expected (cleansing, ointment application, garment wearing). The garment provided is used to protect the surgical result and will be worn for the first 2 weeks. The participation in regular activities, including work, should be suspended for two to three weeks.
Neck Lift
A neck lift (also called a Platysmaplasty) is a series of treatments addressing neck concerns such as loose skin, wrinkles, bands, wattle, and double chins.
-
Our most sought after procedure.
STEP 1: VaserLipo - using ultrasonic energy skin is gently separated from underlying tissue. Fat removal, if required.
STEP 2: The SMAS Lift - the SMAS layer is a connective tissue layer over muscles in the face (in this instance the lower jaw). Over time, the muscles and soft tissue, along with the SMAS layer, begin to stretch and sag. Two to three suspension sutures are placed through 5 mm incisions below the ears, lifting the SMAS layer, muscle and tissue beneath placing this part of the lower face where it was.
STEP 3: The Subdermal Helium Plasma - Helium Plasma and Radio Frequency energy are delivered through these incisions into the space created in Step 1. Results are immediate with more aesthetic benefits to come. Botox can also be utilized to relax or deactivate the platysma bands in the neck.
-
There are a variety of treatment options and pairings for neck lifting. Depending on the desired treatment outcome, a combination of incisions, trimming, SMAS Lift, Subdermal Helium Plasma, Vaserlipo, and BOTOX COSMETIC® may be applied. Conventional Neck Lifts are performed under General Anesthetic while all of Cutis' advanced technology methods are performed in our in-house surgical suites using tumescent freezing, with sedation and inhaled analgesia.
-
Each treatment is performed under appropriate analgesia or general anesthetic when surgery is required and can last between two and four hours.
-
Between 5 and 14 days. A moderate amount of swelling, bruising, and redness are to be expected. Ice packs can be applied to ease discomfort. Effective pain management will be discussed and prescribed prior to treatment. You will be provided with a garment to protect the surgical result and will be worn for the first 2 weeks. Participation in regular activities, including work, should be suspended for one week.
Septorhinoplasty – Nose Job
A surgical treatment option for both medical and cosmetic concerns. Septorhinoplasty combines the benefits of a rhinoplasty with septoplasty (surgery for deviated septum) to further improve the appearance of the nose.
-
There are a variety of treatment options for reshaping the nose. Depending on the desired treatment outcome a combination of rhinoplasty and septoplasty may be applied. Incisions are made within the nostril and sometimes across the base of the nose, which is hidden. Excess bone and cartilage is then removed and reshaped to achieve a desired appearance.
-
Performed under general anesthetic and can last between one to three hours.
-
Recovery time for rhinoplasty varies. A moderate amount of swelling, bruising, and redness around the nose and eyes are to be expected. Effective pain management will be discussed and prescribed prior to treatment. A nasal splint will be fitted and worn for one week following treatment. Most swelling has resolved by 2 weeks. The participation in regular activities, including work, should be suspended for one week, with strenuous activity suspended until after week two.
Scar Revision
Scars may have different causes and appearances. A tailored treatment is required, which often consists of a combination of treatments. Scar revision by Drs. Lemckert or Lewis includes surgical subcision to break up the scar, resurfacing lasers, filler injection, steroid injections, and resurfacing lasers.
-
Most scar treatments are provided with local anaesthetics. Duration depends on the features of the scar and type of treatment needed.
-
Specific to each circumstance, but is usually 1-2 weeks.
DISCLAIMER: Individual outcomes, results and number of treatments recommended may vary based on individual patient needs, medical history, and circumstances. Cutis Cosmetic & Laser Centre cannot guarantee exact or permanent results or cures.
